In its continuous solidarity with the government and the people of Japan during these trying moments, the government of Kenya has donated US $ 1 million (approximately 81 million Yen) towards the relief efforts occasioned by the devastating Earthquake and Tsunami that struck Japan on the 11th March, 2011.

Earlier messages of condolences had been sent by H.E. Mr. Mwai Kibaki, President of the Republic of Kenya, Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, and Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya, Hon. Prof. George Saitoti, Minister for Internal Security and Provincial Affairs, and Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs and among others. The Prime Minister called on the Embassy of Japan in Kenya, accompanied by Members of Parliament, Kenyan Olympic marathon medalists and signed the condolence book on Thursday, March 17.
