[11th June 2012]

Kenya like most countries in the Horn of Africa faces difficulty in the access of safe drinking water especially to the rural population. The Hiroo Rotary Club in collaboration with the International Water Project (IWP) has been supporting the construction of wells in Kenya. IWP applies a traditional Japanese method of digging wells used during the Edo Era. The "Kazusabori" method which is labour intensive has transformed the lives of hundreds of local people in Kenya by providing safe drinking water.

On 6th June, 2012, His Excellency the Ambassador, Mr. Benson H.O. Ogutu was the chief guest during a golf tournament organized by Hiroo Rotary Club to raise funds to construct more wells in Kenya. The work of IWP will go a long way in augmenting the government's efforts of providing safe drinking water to all.
