Nissin Food Holdings launches instant noodles business in Kenya under a partnership with JKUAT

In a courtesy call on His Excellency the Ambassador, THE Management of Nissin informed the Embassy that Nissin Foods had announced on 21st May, 2013 that they had established an instant noodles business joint venture with Nairobi's Jomo-Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). This project was conceived in 2008 when the company started the "Oishii Project in Kenya as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility activities to mark the 50th Anniversary of the founding of Nissin Company. The firm through the "Oishii" Project offered instant noodles to needy school pupils for the school lunch. They also sponsored an education program at the JKUAT University where they utilized instant-noodles making machines to promote entrepreneurship and sustainable growth. Under the Joint Venture Company Nissin and the JKUAT will continue to pursue the sustainable growth objective which is significant as this is first Nissin's business operation in Africa.

At the same time, Nissin will help the JKUAT to train and familiarize engineers and scientists with the instant noodles technology and culture including knowledge of raw materials and quality enhancement techniques so that the graduates can find employment in the Joint Venture Company. The Nissin Company is also committed to provide not only manufacturing technology but also marketing strategies to help students innovate and launch new products for the Kenyan market.
