Ambassador Ogutu with Hon. Yokouchi, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, and Hon. Ono, member of the House of Councilors

At the invitation of Yamanashi Prefectural Government executives, Ambassador Benson Ogutu made a two-day official visit to the Prefecture from 30th to 31st October 2013. Yamanashi prefecture is located right in the middle of Japan with various mountains such Mt. Fuji and Southern Apls, surrounding the larger part of it. The land of Yamanashi is blessed with natural resources and climate ideal for cultivating fruits and thus earning its unique position as 'kingdom of fruits' in Japan. The prefecture is also known for developing and harnessing clean energy particularly the solar power generation due to its receiving of longest sunlight hours in Japan as well as fuel cells etc.

The Ambassador met with the political leadership of the prefecture namely Governor of Yamanashi Hon. Yokouchi and Mayor of Hokuto City H.W. Shirakura, during which they had fruitful discussions on strengthening the relationship between Kenya and Japan from the prefectural perspective.

Further, the Ambassador also used the opportunity to explore possibilities of forging partnerships with the prefecture in various fields of mutual interest with a focus on: business exchanges; science & technology; agriculture, as well as environmental conservation. Accordingly , His Excellency the Ambassador was taken on a study tour to solar energy production facilities and organizations including; Hokuto City Power Plant, Fuel Cell Nanomaterials Center in University of Yamanashi and Komekurayama Solar Power Plant.

The Ambassador also visited the Yamanashi Gakuin University which has become home to Kenyan students' athletes who have consistently maintained top positions in various Ekiden and Marathon events.
