Dr. Moses Ikira, the Managing Director of the Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest) was on official visit to Tokyo from 28th February 2016 to 7th March 2016 on invitation by the Japanese External Trade Organization (JETRO) to attend the African Investment Promotion Forum (AIPF), organized by JETRO.

On the sideline, the Embassy organized and facilitated the Managing Director to Pay Courtesy Calls on senior government officials, including the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and JETRO. Dr. Ikiara also took the opportunity to meet and discuss investment opportunities in Kenya with top officials of the private sector institutions including Isuzu Motors Limited, Kaiho Sangyo Co., Ltd., Hankyu Hanshin Express Co., Ltd., Trina Solar (Japan ) Limited and Hitachi, Ltd. among others.

On 7th March, 2016, Dr. Ikiara gave a presentation on investment opportunities in Kenya to more than 115 participants in the Mizuho Bank Kenya Seminar. The Seminar that was organized by the Bank in collaboration with the Embassy was well attended, including by the Japanese public and private sectors. The aim was to sensitize the customers of the Bank, particularly the SMEs on investment opportunities available in Kenya ahead of the TICAD VI Summit.

Some of the institutions discussed with such as Isuzu Motors, have already completed market surveys and will soon be establishing offices in Nairobi to expand their business in Kenya and the Region. The institutions were also keen to participate in the Japanese Business Seminar and Exhibition, to be organized by JETRO during the TICAD VI Summit in Nairobi in August, 2016. That will enable them to showcase their technology to Africa and to establish investment oriented networks.
