On 12th December, 2016, the Embassy hosted an official reception in celebration of Kenya's 53rd Independence Anniversary (Jamhuri Day) at Hotel Marriot, Tokyo. The successful event attracted approximately 400 guests including: top Japanese Government officials; over 100 Embassies and members of the diplomatic Corps in Japan; the Japanese business community, as well as Kenyan Diaspora in Japan.

The event was graced by Hon. Koichi Hagiuda, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary in the office of Prime Minister, as the Guest of Honour and representative of the Government of Japan. In his remarks, Hon. Hagiuda highlighted the successful TICAD VI which was held on 27-28 August 2016 in Nairobi and expects further strengthening bilateral relationship between Kenya and Japan.

The Embassy also published the Ambassador's message on Kenya-Japan relations and, on TICAD in two Japanese dailies (The Japan News and The Japan Times). During the event, the guests were entertained to Kenyan tunes by Ms. Eriko Mukoyama (Anyango) and Ms. Esther Thirimu (Swinky).
